about

this was the first song written for the record that we saw as a single. before we had a title for it, we referred to it as "the hit." there was a very old idea for a song that kiko sketched a long time ago that's titled on a private bandcamp folder called "kiko's jock jamz." we never used it, but the song had a lyric that really struck me: "i'll sever ties and always wonder why." lyrics that i'm sure he forgot, but lyrics that i swore i would include in a song one day.

over the years i've had many close friends. many of those close friends aren't my close friends anymore, for an assorted amount of reasons. for years it was really easy to blame them for the friendship dissolving.

for years i was scared of getting ~too~ close to people due to the fear of losing them.

that is no way to live now is it?

lyrics

must it be the case
that i cower away
once the celluloid
starts to show my face

oh
preliminary
turns acute
it’s a crisis
caused by you
i’ve got a whole lot
of nothing to do
with you

so i’ll stay a stye
yeah i’ll stay a stye
i’ll sever ties
i wonder why

do i feel alright
yeah i’m feeling just fine
gonna take my time
but i'll surely pass away

nothing promises anything
nothing was promised to me
i’ve got a whole lot of nothing
to give to you

so i’ll stay a stye
yeah i’ll stay a stye
i severed ties
i wonder why
